The Scientific Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in 1975 and is a major scientific institution in Kazakhstan to implement the state policy in the field of reproductive health, identify and coordinate promising scientific research, and integrate into the world scientific community.

Annually, the Center's clinic provides highly specialized obstetric and gynecological care to more than 7,000 high-risk pregnant women and gynecological patients from various regions of Kazakhstan, of which more than 80% fall to the share of residents of the Southern region of the republic (Almaty, Mangistau, North Kakakh region, Kyzylorda, Dzhambul and others). The increased volume of care relates to the most severe forms of nosology. So the increase in treated pregnant women with severe extragenital pathology in the stage and decompensation and subcompensation was 1.5 - 2 times. More than 70% of pregnant women are hospitalized with severe extragenital and obstetric pathology. The increase due to the need for early delivery of the number of preterm births to 10.9% did not affect the deterioration of perinatal indicators. Annually, the department of resuscitation receives treatment for up to 350 newborns with extremely low and low body weight.

Perinatal mortality has decreased since 2010 from 23.8 to 11.9% (2013), mainly due to early neonatal mortality, equal to 10% in 2010 and 5.6% in 2013.
In the clinic of the Center there is a consultative specialized reception in 14 specialties for more than 30,000 women per year from various regions of Kazakhstan.

The "Genetic passport of the person" is implemented, which performs preclinical diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases taking into account the genotype of each patient. Genetic screening of pregnant women and neonatal screening is conducted in the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2007.

Genetic screening was carried out by 805,000 pregnant women, 19,000 invasive prenatal procedures were performed, in utero diagnosed in utero and the birth of 893 children with Down syndrome, and 5,600 children with lethal VDP was prevented.

Neonatal screening is carried out on two hereditary diseases - congenital hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria. Neonatal screening coverage increased from 51.9% in 2007 to 87.4 in 2013.

International recognition was given to the study of the medical and genetic consequences of years of nuclear testing at the Semipalatinsk test site, the results of which were included in the final national report of the UN General Session.

Further study of the medical and genetic aspects of perinatal pathology, the study of the genotoxic effect of the environment on the mother-fetus-newborn, the promotion of hygiene of conception, the search for and development of new methods for prenatal and postnatal diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and PKU in the RK, and the implementation of a three-level prevention of genetic disorders is a progressive approach to The formation of a healthy and competitive nation.

The Center is the Base for the preparation of residents, scientific personnel and doctors, conducting master classes and improving skills in obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology, anesthesiology and resuscitation, medical genetics, prenatal and functional diagnostics. For 2013, training was conducted on thematic cycles - 392 people. Of these, 187 are advanced training, 163 people were trained in the master class and 42 people were trained at the training.

The Center's curators in all South-Western regions are implementing effective perinatal technologies for the care of pregnant and newborns, recommended by the World Health Organization, during 2013, practical and counseling was provided to 1991 pregnant, parturient women and puerperas.

Over the course of its activity, the Center has trained more than 30 doctors of medical sciences, about 150 candidates of medical sciences, more than 300 clinical residents and residents.

Since 2000, the specialized magazine "Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology" has been published.

The work of the scientific department of management and organization of scientific research is carried out in the following areas:
