According to the World Health Organization, in the world until 2005, the annual rate of decline in maternal mortality was less than 1%, until 2008 – 2.3%, by 2010 it was 3.1%. Thus, the rate of reduction of maternal mortality in Kazakhstan is in line with international recommendations.
If we follow the dynamics of the decline in maternal mortality in the republic, we can see that during the years of independence this indicator reached the level of developed countries: in 1990 it was 75.8 per 100,000 live births, in 2000 – 48.6, in 2005 – 40.5, in 2010 – 22.7, in 2015 – 12.3 per 100 thousand live births.
The issues of reducing maternal and infant mortality, as well as improving women’s reproductive health, were given special attention in the implementation of state and sectoral programs in the health care system.
As a result of the work carried out in the country, international standards and recommendations of the World Health Organization were implemented, such as: effective perinatal technologies for WHO, transition to live birth criteria according to the international standard, joint mother and child stay, partner births, clinical protocols, algorithms for major pathological nosology In accordance with international standards, prenatal screening during pregnancy.
Large-scale organizational measures were carried out: to introduce the principles of regionalization; The obstetrical organizations are divided into 3 levels; Maternity hospitals have been introduced in a number of regions in multidisciplinary hospitals; Organized full-fledged perinatal centers, consisting of blocks (obstetric, gynecological, neonatological, polyclinic); In the maternity hospitals of III and II levels, the departments of resuscitation of newborns and nursing of premature babies are opened; All maternity homes are equipped with ultrasound devices and children’s respiratory equipment.
The above-mentioned measures have made it possible to reduce maternal mortality and fulfill the goals and objectives of the millennium.
Over the past 25 years, the maternal mortality rate in Kazakhstan has decreased by 84% – from 75.8 per 100,000 live births in 1990 to 12.3 by the end of 2015, i.e. The average annual decline was 3.4%.
